Hundreds of youths in Kano State under the auspices of Jonathan Support Organisation (JSO), stages a peaceful demonstration at the weekend to nudge former President Goodluck Jonathan to declare for the presidential election.

The placard-carrying youths thronged the secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kano, at the weekend, after staging a rally at some strategic places at the city centre.

Some of them, with banners and posters, were chanting songs insisting that the former president must join the presidential race to save the nation from total collapse.

The Coordinator of JSO, Mubashir Tafida, said Jonathan must come out and declare within seven days in the interest of the nation.

According to Tafida, Nigeria is in a sorry state that only a man like Jonathan could fix, adding that the former president should declare his intention to run for presidency or two million youths would storm his office and force him to contest.

His words: “The economy of the country is in bad state, just as hunger and poverty have become the order of the day in the Nigeria. Only Jonathan can overcome such problems as he did during his first tenure as president. Economic instability in Nigeria is taking its toll on the residents. A man like Jonathan is needed to fix it.

“When he was president, there was no hunger and poverty. Our destiny lies in his hands. He is our father and, as children, we appeal to him to contest the election to save us from the present hardship in Nigeria.”

For Tafida, the group does not care under which political party Jonathan should run for the presidency. “We will be okay with whichever party he runs under,” he said.
