Kanye West to run for the US president
West announced his presidential ambition after receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night and closed his acceptance speech by announcing he is running for president in 2020.
His announcement came after he acknowledged smoking “a little something … I knocked the edge off,” according to politico.com
“I don’t know what I stand to lose after this, it don’t matter though, because it ain’t about me, it’s about new ideas, bro, new ideas. People with ideas, people who believe in truth,” West said after accepting the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award from singer Taylor Swift. “And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
“We the millenials, bro,” West, 38, said moments earlier. “This is a new mentality. We are not going to control our kids with brands. We are not going to teach low self-esteem and hate to our kids. We are going to teach our kids that they can be something, we’re going to teach our kids that they can stand up for themselves. We’re going to teach our kids to believe in themselves.”
The American rapper, songwriter, record producer and fashion designer first became known as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records before he started started his music career.
The Atlanta Georgia native he started rapping at a young age and has won a lot of awards. He has also produced different hit singles and is also known for making controversial statements.
