The Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Buruji Kashamu, has stated that it would be very unfair for anyone to hold the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) responsible for the current mind-boggling revelation on the arms deal.
Kashamu who spoke yesterday at his country home, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun state insisted that any party faithful fingered so far for soiling his or her hand in the arms deal should face the law “without anyone of them dragging the party into it.”
By his assertion, Kashamu has added his voice to other PDP members who have publicly stated that anyone found guilty in the arms deal, which is now popularly known, as Dasukigate should be punished according to the law.
He spoke during an empowerment programme for PDP members in the state under the aegis of his “Omo Ilu Foundation.”
He argued that the idea of linking an entire political party to corruption was wrong, adding that the party was a different entity from individual players in the party.
Kashamu said, “I am a PDP loyalist to the core. I love my party and the party is not involved in corruption. The party is like any other party. It does not mean that because it was PDP that produced the past executives at the centre, it should now be held responsible for whatever action or inaction of the people in that government.
“PDP is a good party, anyone that is involved in corruption should face the music. The party has nothing to do with that. PDP’s integrity still stands.”
Commenting on the party’s forthcoming congresses in the state, Kashamu ruled out the idea of harmonisation and reconciliation of different emerging power blocs in the party.
He noted that each group should rather embark on massive mobilisation and sensitisation of their members ahead of the congresses.
Kashamu said he would not be a party to any form of “manipulation” during the congresses, which are scheduled to hold in wards, local government and state levels.
He pleaded with the leaders of the different power blocs to play the rules of the party.
“There is no need for any harmonisation of groups, let us not make that mistake. We can only come together after the Congresses. Let each group bring their candidates and allow voting to be done transparently.
“But the only thing I cannot do is to sit in my room and start writing names of the delegates and the executives from ward to the state level. It is not possible,” the Senator affirmed.
