Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, has decried increasing drug abuse amongst youths in the country, saying there was urgent need for stakeholders to put in more effort at combating the menace.

Danladi stated that according to statistics by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), it was both sad and alarming that about 15 million Nigerians, mostly youths, abuse hard drugs.

He said stakeholders must rise to the occasion and address the situation before it gets out of hand, especially as youths are tomorrow’s leaders.

He stated this while speaking with newsmen in his capacity as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), Centre for the Advancement of Mothers and Children in Katsina (CEAMOC). The NGO is a project of the wife of the Katsina State Governor, Hadiza Masari.

Danladi noted that the NGO was doing what it could to address the menace of trafficking and consumption of illicit drugs in the state including setting up a drug advisory and counseling centre in Funtua and training three people each from the 11 local council areas of the zone as community drug advisory/counseling workers.

According to the organisation, about 840 addicts have so far been rehabilitated, with 70 of them empowered with business grants.
