Katsina State Governor, Dr. Dikko Radda, yesterday, flagged off distribution of palliatives to 1,813 vulnerable persons at former President Muhammadu Buhari’s Daura hometown.
The event, which was held at the Township Stadium, saw food items and cash being distributed to divorcees left with children, widows, orphans and elderly persons. Each beneficiary got a 50-kg bag of rice, and N10,000 each.
According to the state government, the palliatives’ distribution is to cushion the effect of the rise in cost of living due to the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
Radda said the palliatives’ distribution would be the last he would be launching in the senatorial zone. He commended the efforts of the distribution committee for properly organising the event, and “for the orderly conduct of the beneficiaries that lined up peacefully for screening to the point of collection.”
Meanwhile, Chairman of the palliative distribution committee in Daura, who doubles as the Commissioner for Commerce and Trade, Adnan Na-habu, said the committee screened 1,813 vulnerable persons across the 11 electoral wards in the zone, and selected them for the empowerment.
The commissioner, however, urged the beneficiaries not to sell the food item given to them, but utilise the same for their upkeep and that of their family members.
