The Guardian Newspaper recalls that armed bandits, in the early hours of Monday, carried out their earlier threat to attack Kemanji community in Kaiama local government in Kwara State, killing three soldiers and one vigilante member.
The attackers were reported to have also carted away military patrol vehicles and motorcycles before fleeing the scene.
Findings revealed that there had been a threat letter of attack earlier sent to the community, warning it of a certain attack, but didn’t state date of attack.
According to information, the attack, which occurred at about 3:00 a.m., had sent chivers down the spines of the villagers who, after the Monday attack, had started leaving the community.
According to sources, security operatives, including personnel of the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, swiftly responded and engaged the bandits in a fierce gun duel that lasted two hours.
It was in the exchange of fire that the soldiers and the local vigilante were killed.
In the aftermath of the attack, aggrieved youths in the area called for a temporary halt to political activities, describing the development as a moment of collective grief.
