KGIRS boss Enehe denies fraud allegations, dismisses blogger’s claims

Kogi State Internal Revenue Services (KGIRS)

The Executive Chairman of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Salifu Sule Enehe, has denied allegations of financial impropriety levelled against him by an anonymous blogger, insisting that he is not a signatory to the agency’s bank accounts.

Enehe, who reacted to the allegations through the Director of Income Tax at KGIRS, Mr. Emmanuel Yusufu, also stated that he is not directly involved in tax collection and could not have committed the infractions being alleged.

Addressing journalists in Lokoja on behalf of the chairman, Yusufu clarified that while the agency maintains accounts in several commercial banks in Kogi State, the Executive Chairman does not operate as a signatory to any of them.

“The KGIRS has accounts with all known banks domiciled in Kogi State, but the Executive Chairman is not a signatory to any of those accounts,” he said.

He added that the multiple bank accounts operated by the agency were established on the directive and approval of the Kogi State Government.

“The Executive Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Sule Enehe, never created any bank account outside those authorised by the state government,” Yusufu stated.

The agency also dismissed allegations that Enehe had engaged in arbitrary dismissal of revenue officers, stressing that the management enforces discipline where necessary, particularly in cases involving financial misconduct.

According to the statement, allegations that more than 15 staff were sacked over trivial offences were unfounded.

The unnamed blogger had accused Enehe of alleged corruption, including claims of misappropriation of tax revenues, acquisition of properties in Abuja, and the use of public funds for personal foreign and local trips. The petition also called for an independent audit of KGIRS finances and the suspension of the chairman pending investigation.

However, the revenue service described the allegations as false and politically motivated, warning that it would take steps to identify and expose those behind the publication.

“We consider this publication an attack on the chief executive of the state, and we will not take it lightly. We are going after those faceless individuals attempting to undermine the state government. We will get to the root of this matter through diligent investigation,” Enehe was quoted as saying.
