Participants at the ongoing 2015 Nigerian Institute of Management [Chartered] (NIM) conference in Abuja yesterday admonished stakeholders to find effective solutions to the many management challenges confronting the nation.
They suggested that instead of sitting by to criticize government at all levels and trade blames on why the nation has not gotten it right over the years, all concerned must pull their energies together to salvage the country.
Declaring open the 2015 NIM conference, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Danladi Kifasi, said the success recorded in capacity training for federal civil servants in recent years may not have been successful but for support of the institute.
Kifasi, who was represented by a Deputy-Director in the Office of the Secretary, Special Duties Office of the HOS, Mrs. Walson Jack, said the synergy between the NIM and his office has provided the needed platform in setting this country on a part of greatness, corruption- free civil service, and restoration of discipline which were the hallmark of governance in the past.
President of NIM, Dr. Nelson Uwaga, in his welcome address, said it was unfortunate that Nigeria has continued to suffer gross mismanagement of her vast human and material resources, noting that the problem of mismanagement transcends government business to private sector, and even to individual lives.
‘
’This problem calls for serious concern and attention. More than ever before, Nigeria needs urgent solution to the many management challenges besetting the nation.’’
According to Uwaga, the annual management conference which is part of the institute’s corporate social responsibilities and contributions to nation-building, has always provided a platform for experts to brainstorm on burning and contemporary leadership issues of national importance and suggest ways forward to government. This year’s edition has as its theme ‘’Managing Nigeria for Rapid and Sustainable Development: Redesigning the Future.’’
The NIM boss noted that Nigeria is endowed with “the finest of natural resources and best minds in all walks of life but poor management has been the bane of the nation’s development.
‘’The institute decided to take this leading role because it believes that the task of getting the country up and running should not be left to government alone.”
The institute urged other well meaning corporate organizations and individuals to take a cue from the initiative of NIM and join in the efforts to resuscitate the nation. ‘’It is by synergizing with government in our individual and collective capacities that we all can help to forge the Nigeria of our dreams,’’ Uwaga said.
