KLT Customs Controller bags award for transition of ICT Unit

Comptroller Benjamim Aber, the Controller, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has won an award for facilitating a smooth transition of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) of the service.

This is contained in a statement made available by the Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Ndidi Amadi, on Thursday in Lagos.

The statement noted that Aber was appointed barely three months ago as the controller of the command and had continued to attract laurels for his quest for a seamless trade facilitation and a better Nigeria.

“For facilitating a smooth transition of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Information Communications Technology (ICT), the Comptroller-General, Retired Col. Hameed Ali, on Tuesday, presented Aber with the service 2015/2016 ICT Unit Training Merit Award,’’ the statement said.

It explained that the transition of the ICT Unit was made possible through the Pre- Arrival Assessment Report (PAAR).

It noted that Ali told the men and officers of the service who had gathered at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Lagos, that Comptroller
Aber contributed immensely to the transition programme and development of the NCS Scanning Unit.

“The Award from the comptroller-general of Customs is coming on the heels of an Excellence Award given to Comptroller Aber by the International Institute of Professional Security (IIPS).

“Prior to his posting to the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Command of the Service, Comptroller Aber was the comptroller in charge of ICT.

“He was responsible for the management of all fleet of Scanners deployed nationwide. His job at the unit domiciled inside the headquarters of the Service include field operations, Successful establishment of the Nigeria Customs Ruling Centre where the PAAR platform is being operated.

“The introduction of PAAR the Pre Arrival Assessment Report platform saved the Federal Government about 25million dollars (N4.9 billion) monthly as payment made to the pre-shipment agencies.

“Under Comptroller Aber as the comptroller of the ICT unit, there was a marked increase in revenue generation from N650v billion in 2013 to N977billion in 2014. The platform also brought about the drastic reduction in human contact, thereby curtailing corrupt tendencies in the trade chain,’’ the statement said.
