
• Rivers promises prioritisation of welfare
Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has warned those plotting to outsmart themselves over 2019 to spare his administration of the needless distractions, restating his commitment to develop the state in the next four years.
He promised to unveil soon the main blueprint indicating the developmental strides yearly of his four-year tenure.
On the bailout for the state, he noted that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) denied the immediate past administration because “they were not sincere about it.”
“We are glad to announce that our efforts have paid off. This week, we received approval to draw down on the first tranche of our bailout funds from the Federal Government,” he said.
Bello added that the first batch amounts to about N20 billion, adding that the state would draw down on the balance of about N30 billion as it meets the milestones for implementation of the initial disbursement as spelt out by the apex bank.
He promised to judiciously deploy the funds for salaries and emoluments of workers.
Also yesterday, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, pledged to always prioritise workers’ welfare.
In a goodwill message in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Wike commended the civil servants for diligently contributing to his administration’s efforts in build a new Rivers State.
He urged them to remain committed to the ideals of selfless service and development, noting that the process of massive development being witnessed across the state would be sustained.
The governor, particularly, thanked the workers for the unflinching support they had extended to his administration since assumption of office May last year.
He assured that they would continue to enjoy a key position in his administration as he considers them critical to the attainment of set goals in the state’s development agenda.
