Kogi state governor Yahaya Bello has charged votes in the state to conduct themselves peacefully in order to have rancor-free elections throughout the period of the state house of assembly election.

The Governor stated this shortly after he cast his vote at Agassa, Upogoro ward polling unit eleven in Agassa community.

Bello said the state assembly election belongs to the grassroots urging the eligible voters to obey the electoral laws by voting peacefully in accordance with the law.

He assured that just like the presidential election, the All Progressive Congress (APC) will triumph at the end of the exercise.

Bello expressed satisfaction with the level of turnout of voters and charged the electorate across the state to vote correctly and peacefully.

The governor who commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the adequate preparation for the conduct of the State House of Assembly election, assured that the exercise will be free, fair, and credible.

Abdulkareem Suleiman the candidate of APC in the election representing Okene expressed satisfaction with the level of INEC preparation and the conduct of the election.

He expressed assurance that APC will come out victorious at the end of the election.

Speaking also after voting in his polling unit 001 in Adavi Eba, the former Executive Director of Rural Electrification Agency, Dr. Sanusi Muhammed, said the turn out of people for the state house of assembly election is relatively lower than the presidential election conducted last two weeks, saying that the low turn out was for obvious reasons.

“First, for us in Kogi state we are not part of the governorship election today, it is just the state house of assembly and many people prioritize voting which was why the presidential election witnessed a high turnout of voters.

“By and large, the turnout for today’s election is not bad. I voted and the election is peaceful INEC officials were at the polling units very early with voting materials.

“The BVAS today functions very well and very fast to an extent that within a minute or two eligible voter is accredited and voted.

“INEC should improve on their logistics, especially as the governorship election in Kogi is around the corner.”
