Kogi moves against illegal revenue collectors

Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) has vowed to tackle fake revenue collectors as part of measures to check multiple taxation. Its chairman, Sule Salihu Enehe, told reporters in Lokoja that revenue and taxes are to be collected through cashless media.

Regretting that unauthorised persons have taken over revenue collection in parts of the state, he pledged that his organisation would flush out perpetrators. He hinted that Illegal miners, cashew farmers and related businesses that have not been remitting what was due to government, would, henceforth, be taxed.

Enehe promised to aggressively collect revenue to achieve or exceed 100 per cent target set for the 2023 fiscal year.

The KGIRS chair said with the innovation, he introduced during his probation, more persons were recruited to broaden revenue base of government.

According to him, processes for staff promotion and salary increment have commenced, with examinations and interviews concluded.He said by April this year, promotion and increment letters would be released to enhance performance.

The chairman appealed to the public to always pay up their tax for government to deliver dividends of democracy.
