Kogi NUJ sues DSS over detention of journalist

Following the continued detention of a journalist, Mr. Friday Ogungbemi, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kogi State council, has sued the Department of State Services (DSS) at the Federal High Court, Lokoja.

The union is claiming N5 million for damages.Ogungbemi, a Kogi-based journalist and publisher was arrested and detained by the DSS on November 30 over alleged offensive publication in his Policy and Lawmakers magazine.

Meanwhile, the state government had arraigned Ogungbemi before a Magistrate Court in Lokoja for alleged defamation.He was accused of defamation in a publication against the state governor, Yahaya Bello and his Chief of Staff, Edward Onoja tagged, “Overzealous chief of staff acts as governor extraordinaire.”
