Kogi REC endorses congress by Bello’s faction
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Kogi State, Prof. James Apam, has endorsed the congress conducted by the Governor Yahaya Bello-led faction.
He debunked insinuations that parallel congresses were held in the state on Saturday.
Apam made the clarification, following claims by the Audu/Faleke faction that their immediate pasts chairman Haddy Ametuo was re-elected.
According to the group, Ametuo was elected chairman through affirmation in another congress alleged to have taken place outside the state in Gwagwalada.
But, the group insisted that its congress took place at the St Peter’s Primary School in Felele area of Lokoja.
The returning officer, Theman Saurara, allegedly announced the results of the congress held by the Ametuo group.
But, Abdullahi Bello emerged chairman in the congress that took place at Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, while Josiah Onoja was returned as the Secretary in a voice vote.
The governor witnessed the state congress, which was supervised by the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC), Apam.
About 37 people were elected into various positions at the congress.
