Kwankwaso, Yusuf flag off N4.6b foreign scholarship scheme for 1,001 PG students

The presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso on Thursday cautioned the 1,001 successful candidates selected for Kano State foreign scholarship scheme to remain worthy ambassador of the state in their academic pursuit abroad.

The former governor gave the advice during the sendforth of 550 candidates set to depart Nigeria for India and Uganda for their postgraduate studies.

Kwankwaso, who was overwhelmed with the return of the state foreign sponsorship of indigenous students he pioneered eight years ago, urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity.

Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement revealed that education remains the formidable pillar to attain unlimited success in life, and emphasized that significant percent of those who benefited from the lofty gesture during his administration are productively marking impact in their chosen careers.

He lauded Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf for adopting the legacy of Kwankwasiyya movement to improve social and economic development and human capital growth, and pledged strong support for his administration.

Flagging off the scheme, Governor Yusuf disclosed that his administration is commiting N4.6 billion to cater for the tuition and registration fees, accomodations, and feeding allowances of the 1,002 candidates. He said the re-introduction of the foreign scholarship was part of his campaign promises on education development and in continuation of Kwankwaso’s policy. The governor tasked the student to obey rules and regulations of the host community just as he cautioned not to forsake their root, culture and religious obligations at the foreign land.

He stated that efforts Kwankwaso has been a huge impetus for his administration to continue with it added that some of those trained under the scheme under Kwankwaso are now occupying important positions of authority in the present administration.”Let me say that the foreign scholarship scheme was initiated by the administration of our mentor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. Distinguished Senator sponsored three batches of scholars to foreign studies in about 16 countries across the globe.

“This singular effort by his administration has produced many professionals and PhD holders, thousands of masters degree holders, thousands of professionals in medical sciences, engineering, natural sciences, pilots, maritime specialists, etc.”The practical effort of his Excellency Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s administration has been a huge impetus for our administration to continue with this very useful and popular policy of foreign scholarship.

“In this regard, I am very happy to say that some of the products of this policy are today occupying important government positions of authority in the present administration. Some of them are Commissioner for Higher Education Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, the Statistician General of the State, Prof Aliyu Isa Aliyu, the Special Adviser on Innovation and Dr Bashir Muzakkir among others”.

Gov. Yusuf noted.The state commissioner for Higher education, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-Mata had said the seven universities in India include Sharda University, Mewar University, SR University, Sri Sai University, Swarrnim University, Kalinga University, and CT University, and one in Uganda; Islamic University, where approved for the foreign scholarship scheme.
