Kwara govt converts general hospital, upgrades hotel
Kwara State government has concluded plans to convert its general hospital to a university teaching hospital.
Consequently, it has sent a bill to the House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Al-Imam, at a joint press briefing alongside her colleagues in the ministries of Communication, Business Innovation, as well as Technology and Works, explained that the teaching hospital would have far-reaching benefits to Kwarans and non-Kwarans beyond the state.
According to her, the exco, yesterday, approved the conversion of the general hospital to Kwara State University Teaching Hospital (KWASUTH) to offer standard healthcare to the people.
“To this end, the state government has presented a bill to the Assembly for legislative consideration and approval,” she stated.
Also, the Commissioner for Business Innovation and Technology, Damilola Yusuf, disclosed that the exco had awarded a contract for the reconstruction and remodelling of the state hotel at N17.8 billion.
She said the hotel, on completion, would compete with any five-star hotel across the world.
Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, explained that the reconstruction would be financed by foreign partners, while the state government takes over in due time.
The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Abdulqowiyu Olododo, hinted that the state was engaging in aggressive road and flyover constructions in the metropolis.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, he added, was determined to change the face of the state’s urban areas.
