The Federal Government on Saturday intensified both humanitarian and security interventions in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, as Vice President Kashim Shettima led a high-level delegation to communities affected by Tuesday’s deadly attacks.

During the visit to Nuku and Woro villages, the Vice President conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s condolences to victims’ families and reassured residents of immediate and sustained federal support to restore peace and rebuild confidence in the area.

Shettima disclosed that the President had directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), working with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency, to urgently mobilise relief materials and other forms of assistance for displaced and distressed residents.

He also confirmed that a battalion of the Nigerian Army had been deployed to Kaiama, alongside other security reinforcements, as part of broader efforts to stabilise the communities and prevent further breaches.

According to the Vice President, the visit was aimed at demonstrating solidarity with the people of Kaiama and the Kwara State Government, while underscoring the administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity decisively.

Describing the victims as peaceful citizens going about their lawful pursuits, Shettima said the incident had deeply saddened the nation, adding that security agencies were already implementing coordinated measures to restore calm, though operational details would remain confidential.

“I am here to commiserate with the people and government of Kwara State, especially the Kaiama community, and to reassure you that the Federal Government stands firmly with you at this difficult time,” he said.

In his remarks, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Chairman of the North-East Governors’ Forum, conveyed the sympathy of the forum and offered prayers for the victims and their families, urging unity and resilience in the face of the tragedy.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who received the delegation, commended the Federal  Government’s swift response, noting that security operatives and emergency officials had been deployed promptly, with “Operation Savannah Shield” already underway.

He called for continued national support and prayers to strengthen security efforts across the country, stressing the need for collective resolve against violence.

Also speaking, Kaiama Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Abubakar Danladi, thanked the Presidency for the rapid deployment of troops, while the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Mu’azu Shehu Omar, lauded the government’s prompt intervention and sustained engagement with local authorities.

Among dignitaries present were the Director-General of NEMA, Zubaida Umar; Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume; Managing Director of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, Jennifer Adighije; former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege; and members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, among others.
