The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five people, including two local vigilantes (names withheld), for allegedly beating and torturing a 46-year-old political science graduate of the University of Ilorin to death.
The Guardian reliably gathered that the incident, which occurred at Ita-Elepa in the Ilorin West Local Government Area (LGA), also led to the arrest of a community leader and two others.
According to our source, the late Lanre Adebayo was allegedly macheted to death Monday night while returning home from an outing by the local vigilantes, who were said to be unsatisfied with his reason for being out late.
The source hinted that Adebayo was earlier stopped by the local security men, who allegedly engaged him in a heated argument.
Our source said the incident happened at about 10 PM while the deceased was returning home from an outing.
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the five suspects in connection with the murder of the 46-year-old Lanre.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ‘Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, told newsmen on the phone that a police patrol team stormed the scene and made the arrest upon realizing the gravity of their actions.

She said: “Yes, we are aware of the incident and we have made an arrest of about five suspects in connection with the crime, and they have been transferred to the state CID Wednesday night.”
She hinted that investigations have commenced, and further updates will be communicated to newsmen.
Adetoun explained: “It was yesterday (Wednesday) that someone drew my attention to it; I then made necessary contacts to get the facts. I eventually got the story.
“They told me that as of yesterday (Wednesday), they had not gotten the suspects’ statements, but today (yesterday), they will start proper investigation,” she stated, adding that: “They are in our custody.”
