Mansur Aramide, Ilorin
Senator Saliu Mustapha, representing Kwara Central, has urged the Federal Government to fix the Oko-Olowo intersection on the outskirts of Ilorin, Kwara State.
The plea was necessitated by another tragic loss of lives last weekend in yet another fatal accident at the intersection, which has become a recurring death trap for commuters.
Mustapha, however, said he was sure that the road would get government attention.
The senator said he has had a personal engagement with the officials of the Federal Ministry of Works, the Minister for Works, Dave Umahi to deploy engineers to the Oko-Olowo intersection for an on-the-spot assessment to determine permanent solutions to the structural and safety concerns at the intersection.
Senator Mustapha commended Umahi for his prompt response and reiterated his commitment to the safety and well-being of his constituents.
He urged residents and motorists “to remain calm” and assured them that concrete steps are being taken to forestall further tragedies.
“The safety of our people is non-negotiable, and we will continue to work with all relevant authorities to ensure lasting solutions,” he stated.
The senator also acknowledged the interim measures being reportedly undertaken by the Kwara State Government.
He stressed that the efforts of the Kwara State Government would complement the Federal Government’s planned interventions, which are expected to be more comprehensive and permanent.
