Officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Kwara State command, have arrested one suspect over the last Thursday killing of Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti local government area of Kwara State.

It was gathered yesterday that the suspect had since been helping the police in their investigation.

Recall that the late Oba was gruesomely murdered by gunmen in his palace while his wife and two others were abducted.

Meanwhile, the assassins have earlier reached out to the monarch’s family demanding N100 million ransom but it was yesterday reduced to N40 million for the release of their captives.

Chairman of the Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) in the local government, Chief Kehinde Bayode confirmed to The Guardian Newspaper that a suspect was yesterday apprehended in Eruku area of the council area.

According to him: “the arrested suspect was found with foreign currency and I had got in touch with the DPO in the area not to release the suspect.”

Bayode while speaking on efforts made to get the abductees freed said “the kidnappers had got in touch with the family demanding for N100 million ransom which has now been reduced to N40million.

“We are still negotiating with them and right now, I’m on my way to Koro to get the latest information on the negotiation.

“We will continue to brief you as the situation unfolds and we will keep you posted,” he assured.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ejire-Adeyemi Adetoun did not confirm the arrest of any suspect.

She said that no arrest had been made in connection with the incident, saying: “the CP has deployed tactical team to Koro Ekiti to fish out the perpetrators.”

According to her: “Policemen are working with other security agencies to free those that were abducted during the kidnapping incident.

“No arrest has been made yet. We are going to keep you abreast of the development as it unfolds,” she said.
