The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has described as misleading and factually incorrect, the claims that its employees are not benefiting from the new minimum wage.
A statement by the Director of University Relations, Prof Saeedat Aliyu, said its teaching, non-teaching and technology staff receive salaries comparable to those of their counterparts in federal universities in the country.
The statement was in response to an online publication alleging that the state government’s implementation of the N100,000 minimum wage did not extend to KWASU staff, and describing the policy as a publicity stunt.
Rejecting the allegation, the university clarified that the individuals referenced in the publication are not KWASU employees but part-time workers engaged to supervise privately owned student hostels within and around the varsity community.
According to the management: “the workers are neither employed by the university nor covered by its salary structure, making the comparison with university staff inaccurate.”
The university also said it has enjoyed substantial support from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, adding that his government’s investment has contributed to the institution’s growth in teaching, research and infrastructure.
KWASU described the publication as lacking factual basis and urged the public to disregard it, while calling on media organisations to verify information before publication.
