Labour gives Ogun ultimatum over unpaid dues
Organised labour in Ogun, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) yesterday gave the state government a 21-day ultimatum to pay all outstanding dues to workers and pensioners.
The unions threatened to embark on an indefinite strike if the state government fails to comply with the ultimatum. This was part of the resolutions at an extra-ordinary state executive council meeting of the three bodies in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The State Chairman of the NLC, Akeem Ambali said all efforts to make the government fulfill its pledges to the workers had been futile. His words: “As we speak, the state owes 72 months of unpaid contributory pension scheme, 12 months of deductions, four years of unpaid pension and deliberate non-payment of salaries of Tai Solarin College of Education (TASCE) workers running to about 16 months.”
