Labourer remanded for allegedly killing employer’s husband in Ondo

A 34-year-Old labourer, John Odah, has been remanded in a correctional centre by an Ondo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly macheting his employer’s husband to death.

Odah was arraigned on a charge of murder following the incident, which occurred on April 18, 2025, at Agbajo farm in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Council of Ondo State.

According to reports, the defendant, whom the deceased’s wife employed, allegedly killed the man, identified as Sunday Innocent, during a heated argument over hard drugs.

The prosecutor stated that Odah inflicted fatal machete wounds to Innocent’s forehead and back, which eventually led to his death. The charge reads: “That you, John Odah, on April 18, 2025, at about 2:00 p.m., at Agbajo farm, Ilu-Abo, in the Akure Magisterial District, did unlawfully machete one Sunday Innocent with a cutlass on his forehead and back, which resulted in his death.”

The offence contravenes Sections 319(1) and 320(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006. Odah’s plea was not taken during the proceedings, and the prosecutor requested that he be remanded in a correctional facility pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Magistrate Omotosho granted the request, citing sufficient cause for remanding the defendant and directed that the case file be duplicated for the DPP’s review.
