The Accord Party (AP) in Oyo State yesterday warned the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) not to set the state on fire over its alleged propaganda on the election petition tribunal ruling.
The party also threatened a legal action against the national newspaper (not The Guardian) that carried the report that the court of Appeal has upheld the election of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the April 11 polls.
The AP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Nureni Adeniran clarified that no court declared Ajimobi winner of the governorship polls.
Instead, it stated that what the appellate court ruled on was an application seeking to tender the forensic report of the recounting of ballot papers.
Adeniran in the statement clarified that the ruling of the appellate court does not in anyway affect the substantive suit before the election petition tribunal as regards the election petition filed by Accord and its flag bearer, Senator Rashidi Ladoja.
“Our attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper captioned “Court upholds Ajimobi’s election”, We have discovered that All Progressive Congress (APC) has the tradition of distorting and twisting the court proceedings to mislead the general public. We are therefore constraint to put across to the general public that the publication was not the true actuality of what transpired at the court. It is therefore necessary for Accord to state what transpired and the party’s prayers before the court.
