The Lagos State Attorney-General, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) has filed a one-count charge against ASP Drambi Vandi, the alleged police office, who allegedly shot a lawyer, Mrs. Bolanle Raheem.

The Attorney General, who appeared before the Chief Magistrate’s Court, Yaba, prayed the court to remand the defendant in pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos, 2015.

When the case was called, the AG informed the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatunbosun, that his application for the remand was filed to allow the police to conclude its investigations in the matter.

The magistrate, while granting the request to remand the defendant at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility, ordered that the case file be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Dr. Babajide Martins for legal advice. She, subsequently, adjourned the case to January 30, 2023, for legal advice.

Meanwhile, A 95- year-old grandmother and veteran educationist, Mrs. Cordelia Obeya, has condemned the unfortunate killing of Mrs. Raheem and called for prayers for the bereaved family.

Speaking in Lagos, Mrs. Obeya, whose grandson was killed by the police in a similar circumstance, said that only the right kind of leadership would tackle the problem of extra judicial killing and other security challenges in the country.

Mrs. Obeya also noted that education with a scientific approach, “is key to the solution of every human societal problem of security, peace and unity.”

She said: “The extra-judicial killing of Mrs. Raheem is particularly very painful to me as a grandmother, who had suffered a similar experience in the past.

“I, hereby, send my heartfelt condolence to her family at this difficult time in their life.

Also, the Executive Council of the Lekki Estate Residents and Stakeholders Association (LERSA), yesterday, paid condolence visits to the families of Raheem, and Gafaru Buraimoh, who were recently shot dead by the police in separate incidents.

The LERSA delegation was led by the association’s President, Olorogun James Emadoye. The association commiserated with both families in their period of grief and expressed the shock and sadness of the entire members of the association to the incidents in which they died.

Emadoye vowed that LERSA would ensure that extrajudicial killing of its members would not happen again. He equally promised the victims’ families that the association would ensure that “justice is served and prayed that the families to have fortitude to bear the losses.”

“I plead with them and the people of Nigeria to seek a leadership that will do the right thing through quality education that starts from the grassroots, despite the differences in humans, with a national educational policy that includes early childhood education.”
