The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sworn in newly elected executive committee members across its local government and ward structures.
The inauguration, which took place on Friday at the APC State Secretariat in Acme, Ogba, Ikeja, followed the postponement of the exercise earlier scheduled for Thursday due to the sudden death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro.
Yesiro died on Wednesday evening, less than 24 hours after he was re-elected as the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary during the Lagos APC State Congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly known as Onikan Stadium.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, the Lagos State APC Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, urged the newly inaugurated executives to demonstrate diligence and commitment to the party’s ideals.
He also called on members to stay united and avoid divisive tendencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ojelabi described the inauguration as a critical step toward strengthening the party’s organisational framework in preparation for future electoral contests.
“We found you worthy to be elected to pilot the affairs of the party for the next four years. Your role is critical to the growth and consolidation of the party,” he said.
The chairman noted that the party’s sustained success in Lagos over the years was largely driven by its strong grassroots structure and encouraged the executives to maintain the tradition.
“The responsibility before you is enormous. You must be diligent in the discharge of your duties and remain committed to the ideals of the party,” he added.
He further emphasised the need for unity among party members, urging leaders and stakeholders to refrain from actions that could create divisions within the party.
According to Ojelabi, the executives emerged through a democratic process and must work together to strengthen the party’s presence in their respective wards and local government areas.
He noted that the new executives took office at a crucial period for the party, emphasising that their leadership would be vital in consolidating the party’s achievements in the state.
Ojelabi also urged them to work closely with local government party leadership and intensify mobilisation at the grassroots.
“Work starts immediately. Let the leadership in your local government know you have been sworn in, and work together to strengthen the party’s structure,” he said.
The chairman assured the executives of the support from the party leadership and the state government in maintaining the continued growth and success of the APC in Lagos.
He also reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusive participation and grassroots development, emphasising that effective leadership at the ward and local government levels remains vital to sustaining the APC’s political strength in the state.
