Lagos Assembly candidate laments insecurity, flooding in Amuwo-Odofin

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos State House of Assembly constituency 01 in the 2023 general election, Hon. Emmanuel Alaba David, has lamented the high level of insecurity and flooding in Amuwo Local Council.

The candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Lagos State House of Assembly constituency 01 in the 2023 general election, Hon. Emmanuel Alaba David, has lamented the high level of insecurity and flooding in Amuwo Local Council.
The administrator, who spoke to The Guardian at Festac Town, expressed worries that whenever there is heavy downpour, the local council is flooded, because the drainage is blocked.
He said at present, drainages in the area are blocked and nothing is being done to evacuate the refuse inside them to stop the flooding.
The candidate, who promised purposeful representation for his constituency, complained of bad roads and lack of fully equipped healthcare centres in the area.
David stressed that he plans to bring a general hospital to his constituency and lamented the high unemployment rate among the youths, which is posing security threat in the council.
He said: When elected, I will ensure that jobless youths are empowered after skill acquisition training. By the time we teach them what they are familiar with we will help them to be self-reliant.
“As an entrepreneur and Chief Executive officer for about 25 years. I have trained about 500 people. Being an entrepreneur, I will be able to touch lives and change their mindset. I have been doing it on my own scale, but I found out that it is not possible for someone to do it alone except when you have the opportunity to be in government.
“I will be able to replicate all my experiences as a businessman and entrepreneur for the benefit of my people in my constituency and Nigeria at large.
On the recent ban on Okada operation in the state, the PDP candidate said as a government that has the welfare of people in mind, there should have been alternatives before such ban.
“Government should have looked at it critically. They should have retained the Gokada company because the company came with a very good initiative, where you can track their bikes to know where they are and where they are going. They are well registered. You can even track the bike from your phone, but the government cancelled it without a good explanation.
“Why did they stop the Gokada from working? The claim of insecurity to me was a weak excuse. Government should have called for a round table meeting with local council chairmen to find a lasting solution to the situation, rather than outright ban on okada operation.”
