The Lagos State House of Assembly has resumed operations following the reinstatement of Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

The heavily armed security presence that marked recent sessions has been notably reduced, signaling a return to a semblance of normalcy.

However, the day was not without its drama. Former Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, whose return to the Assembly had been a point of contention among lawmakers, arrived at the premises accompanied by armed security personnel.

He was reportedly denied entry with his escort, ultimately being permitted to enter alone after a period of negotiation.

An anonymous source within the Assembly alleged that Onafeko had previously forced entry into his locked office after his suspension, even granting media interviews from within.

“Imagine a civil servant breaking down the door of his own office locked by the leadership of the House,” the source remarked.

He said Onafeko likely came around to return keys belonging to the Assembly.

The day’s primary focus was a parliamentary session convened by Speaker Obasa, aimed at solidifying the agreements reached with lawmakers prior to his reinstatement.

These conditions, which paved the way for Obasa’s return, included the retention of all appointments made during his absence, the continued exclusion of Olalekan Onafeko from the Assembly, and the barring of a female Obasa aide, Nike, from returning to her position.

Speaker Obasa, who was officially sworn back into his position on March 3, 2025, following a period of internal strife, was reportedly compelled to accept the lawmakers’ terms in order to secure his reinstatement.

The session served to reiterate and solidify these conditions, ensuring a fragile peace within the Assembly.
