Lagos begins free health checks, eye tests for NDLEA officers

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State government, on Thursday, flagged off a free healthcare initiative for 1,000 officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) under Sanwo-Olu’s Officers Care Initiative.

The state pledged to continue strengthening collaborations with security agencies and the NDLEA to curb substance abuse for the well-being of residents and critical stakeholders in the transport sector.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative at the NDLEA, Lagos Strategic Command office, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transportation and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, said the initiative, which included eye tests and corrective glasses, health checks, and customised ATM cards, aims to reach 1000 NDLEA officers.

He said the expanded Initiative was in recognition of the agency’s strategic collaboration with the Lagos State government during the recently concluded Drivers’ Care Programme, during which professional drivers across the state benefited from eye screening and drug sensitisation exercises.

Earlier, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Commander of the Lagos State Strategic Command, Abubakar Wali, commended the good strides of the Lagos State government and its initiative in the transport sector, especially its collaboration with the agency on driver drug testing.

He said the Lagos State government had always been a pacesetter, adding that the health check for officers of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency would have positive impacts on keeping them fit and in good condition, while urging other states to key into such an initiative.

Also, the beneficiaries, which included the Commander of Narcotics and the Area Commander, NDLEA Seme Special Area Command, Rita Ajoko, said the new glasses received would enable them to work effectively, while thanking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the gesture.
