The indigenes and residents of the Odo-Ogun community in Kosofe Local Council of Lagos State have protested the illegal demolition of their ancestral homes and buildings.
The community, in a communiqué issued at the end of a meeting held last Friday, urged the state government to intervene to prevent mayhem in the community.
The communiqué read in part: “Unfortunately, some officials of the state government colluded with one Onikoro Family to perpetrate illegality to execute a fake judgment of 1936 that is being contested in courts.
“Odo-Ogun community was involved in civil matters with the Onikoro over the same parcel of land in two suits, which both matters have reached the hearing stage. The parties are also involved in the Appeal Court contesting the same judgment of 1936 suit No. CA/LAG/CV/159/22: Akintola Vs Oladunjoye in which both parties have filed briefs of argument awaiting a date for argument.”
The Youth Leader of the community, Aliu Hassan Fijabi, urged the state government to intervene in the matter.
The Baale of Odo-Ogun Orile, Johnson Amodemaja Ogunmola, said: “We are shocked that the brains behind the demolition of buildings in our community resorted to self-help despite the pendency of a suit on the matter which has been adjourned.
“I am appealing to the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the Speaker of the House of Assembly to intervene and stop this illegal demolition for peace’s sake.”
Also, the Chief Imam of Odo-Ogun Orile. Muyideen Balogun, said: “I was born and raised in this community and we have produced the nine Baales so far. We are sleeping outside in the cold with our families. We are begging Governor Sanwo-Olu and Speaker Mudashiru Obasa to intervene and stop these trespassers from taking over our land.”
