Lagos Country Club raises awareness against malaria
Lagos Country Club has raised awareness of malaria disease through a swimming competition to sensitise members, children and adults on prevention and treatment of the pandemic.
Chairman of the tourney’s organising committee, Dr. Laja Adesina, who stated that the competition was to spread awareness on how to save the lives of more than 1.5 million Nigerians that have been infected with malaria, said the club took the action as part of its yearly one-day swimming competition called “Swim Against Malaria.”
He said: “Swimming is a very good recreation endeavour and we try to connect swimming with malaria in a bid to raise awareness.”
If you know about malaria just like we heard during the pep talk, it is a scourge.
“If you look at the number of people that COVID-19 has killed and infected and you put that against malaria, you will find out that you will need to put much more resources into malaria treatment and prevention.”
Adesina, who said that effort against malaria was a drop in the ocean and not receiving the desired attention, urged the Federal Government to improve healthcare facilities and dedicate more resources and staff to combating the scourge.
