Lagos State Government has debunked reports making the rounds that the Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has tested positive to COVID-19.

Tunbosun Ogunbanwo, the director of public affairs of the ministry, in a statement on Friday said the claims are “absolute falsehood, fabricated by mischief makers.”

Ogunbanwo said the authors are out to create unnecessary panic and fear amongst the populace.

“Professor Abayomi is hale, hearty and in good health, as he diligently continues to discharge his responsibilities as the Deputy Incident Commander of the #COVID19Lagos Intervention Team constituted to battle the deadly virus in Lagos,” Ogunbanwo said.

The false information emanated on social media on Thursday shortly after Abayomi tweeted that 10 persons associated to the Lagos State House at Marina tested positive to the virus.

He announced on Thursday, May 7 that 10 people associated with the Lagos State House in Marina tested positive for the disease.

The State House is the official residence of the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and his family.

Sanwo-Olu and his wife, Joke, tested negative after three consecutive tests, according to Abayomi.

Lagos, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in Nigeria, reported a single-day record of 183 new confirmed cases on Thursday, bringing the total cases in the state to 1,507.

A total number of 406 patients have also recovered from the infection in the state, while 33 deaths have been recorded.
