Lagos dislodges 10 illegal slaughter slabs

Lagos State Government, yesterday, said that it had dislodged 10 more illegal slaughter slabs and animal markets at Ayobo, Ipaja, Oko Filling, Ikorodu; Odogunyan Road, Ikorodu and Mangoro on Abeokuta Expressway of the state.

In a statement, Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said that the exercise was in continuation of the state government’s sanitisation and reform of the red meat value-chain with the goal of producing wholesome meat for the consumption of its citizenry.

She disclosed that during the exercise, no fewer than 21 live rams, 13 live goats and 4.5 tonnes of meat carcass were confiscated.

Olusanya added that the confiscated meat carcass was subsequently donated to the Bab-Es-Salam Home, GRA, Ikeja; the Real Woman Foundation, Magodo and the Love Home Orphanage, CMD Road, Magodo-Shangisha.

The commissioner noted that the confiscated live animals would be auctioned at the mobile court of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Office with all offenders duly prosecuted, stressing that there will be no option of fine to serve as deterrent to others.

In another development, the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said the drive of his administration is to make Lagos State the choice destination that will compete with other cities around the world.

The governor stated this, yesterday, when the Federal Government visitation panel to the University of Lagos paid him a courtesy visit. He stated that he wants to attract investment in different sector of the economy in the state.

ALSO, the state government has tasked the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, Kim Young-Chae, on the need to strengthen relationship between Korea and Nigeria.

Sanwo-Olu stated this when Young-Chae led a delegation to pay him a courtesy visit at the Lagos House, Marina.

The governor said that the state was willing to build partnership with Korea in the areas of technology, vocational training for youths, construction, automobile, railway, among others.
