Lagos Govt. rehabilitates 456 classrooms, establishes 4 new schools

The Lagos State Government says it rehabilitated 456 classrooms in 28 primary, junior and senior secondary schools in the last one year.

Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, the Commissioner for Education, gave the figure at the presentation of the ministry’s scorecard in Lagos.

Some of the rehabilitated schools include GRA Primary School I and II, Ogudu; Pobuna Junior Grammar School, Poka, Epe, Festac Junior and Senior College and Ilupeju Senior Grammar School, Mushin.

Estate Senior Grammar School, Mushin, Iju Junior Grammar School II, Iju, Navy Town Junior Secondary School, Agboju, and Central Junior High School, Okota are also among the schools.

Oladunjoye said that the provision of infrastructure in public schools would continue to be of utmost priority to the government, in providing quality teaching and learning environment.

The commissioner said that four additional secondary schools were also established, to create more conducive learning atmosphere for students in the state.

The newly established schools are Sango Junior Secondary School (Inclusive), Agege; Ajara Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Ajara-Topa, Community Senior Secondary School, Orisumbare, Ayobo, Alimosho and District Senior College, Meiran, Alimosho.

She said that the schools were established within the last one year to meet the demand for secondary education in the areas.

Oladunjoye said that 96 standard science laboratories were installed in 32 public secondary schools in the state, with each school having three laboratories.

The commissioner said that 10,000 pairs of wooden dual desks and benches were procured for public secondary schools.

She said that a new boys’ hostel was reconstructed at the Badagry Senior Grammar School, while perimeter fencing was also constructed in 13 junior and senior secondary schools.

According to Oladunjoye, 13 schools, whose roofs and ceilings were blown off by the rainstorm, were rehabilitated.

“We have also rehabilitated the hostel block at the Lagos State Civil Service Junior Model College, Igbogbo, Ikorodu and constructed a new boys’ hostel for Badagry Senior Grammar School, Badagry,’’ she said.
