Lagos hosts statutory meeting of UCLG Africa

To ensure African countries remain united, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has hosted the executive committee of Pan-African Council of United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa).

The meeting focused on adoption of the UCLG Africa 2024 work plan and budget, and equally discussed preparation of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) and yearly summit of the UNFCCC’s decision-making body United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) holding from November 30 to December 12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said there is no better time for African nations to unite for development.

He assured that he would transform Lagos into a 21st century state.

Represented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Bolaji Kayode, the governor lauded the council chairmen and chairpersons for congregating to share ideas and form common goals for the development of the grassroots and the entire continent.

ALGON president, Kolade Alabi, said Lagos was delighted to host the gathering, stating it embodies the dynamism of Africa’s urban landscapes and reflects the potential to drive growth and development.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, commended the governor and ALGON for the programme.
