The anti-vandal unit of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has intercepted five drug dealers, on the high sea, close to Ibeshe waterways, around Badagry axis, loaded with items suspected to be Cannabis sativa (Indian Hemp).

The Command’s spokesperson,  Seun Abolurin,  in a statement, yesterday, said the interception on Thursday, October 20,  followed renewed efforts of  Lagos State Command initiated by  Commandant of Corps (CC), Edenabu Okoro Eweka, against all forms of economic sabotage and other kinds of criminality in Lagos State.

He said the team led by its Head of Unit (HOU), Assistant Commandant of Corps (ACC) Musa Abdullahi Jibrin, intercepted the dealers of the illicit drugs, while on routine surveillance and patrol at the wee hours of Thursday, October 20, 2022.

According to him, the team noticed that the five suspects (all male ) sighted their uncompromising operational drive and immediately jumped into the water for safety and escape.

“ However, the well trained, gallant officers and men, did not engage in irrational release of fire, but remained focus and took possession of the Cannabis Sativa, discovered to be 101 bags of fifty kilogrammes (50kg) each, suspected to be conveyed into the country from the Republic of Ghana. The recovered Indian Hemp is estimated to be over N65 million at market value.”

Meanwhile, the Commandant Eweka has given the credit of operational success to the synergy between the Commandant General (CG) of NSCDC, Ahmed Abubakar Audi and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Mohammed Marwa (Retd).

He  affirmed the Command’s unflinching commitment, towards eradicating all forms of economic sabotage and urged foreigners not to compensate for the good neighbourliness of Nigeria, by flooding the nation with illicit drugs, which influence crimes and criminality among the youths.

Eweka said the Command has immediately notified NDLEA of the operation and will hand over the exhibits to the Agency accordingly. He commended officers for the recent operational successes and pledged more logistics supply, especially, the new gunboat and vehicles recently deployed to the Command by Commandant General (CG), Ahmed Abubakar Audi.
