The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four individuals in connection with a visa fraud scheme valued at over ₦500 million, involving false promises of work visas to Canada and Australia.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspects—aged between 23 and 36—were apprehended by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) following the transfer of the case from the Ago Okota Division.
Hundeyin stated that the four suspects were staff members of an educational consultancy based in Ago Okota. Preliminary investigations revealed they collected funds from over 100 victims under the guise of securing overseas employment opportunities.
“The suspects fraudulently obtained a total of ₦500 million from unsuspecting victims under the false promise of securing Canadian and Australian work visas,” Hundeyin said.
He also noted that more individuals may be involved in the scheme, adding that the investigation is ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other accomplices.
The Lagos Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, urged residents to verify the legitimacy of travel and recruitment agencies before making payments or commitments related to visa processing.
He assured the public of the command’s dedication to rooting out fraud and protecting citizens from criminal enterprises.
