The Lagos State Police Command has presented N53 million cheques to families of 22 officers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
  
The presentation was made as part of activities marking the 2026 National Police Day.
   
The Command also held a Security Stakeholder Meeting at the Command.
   
The event, which brought together key stakeholders, including the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), community leaders, members of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, and Religious Leaders, is aimed at building trust through community partnership.
   
While addressing the gathering, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, appreciated the stakeholders for their continued partnership and support in crime prevention and control. He emphasised the importance of synergy in tackling criminality, prompt response to distress calls, and maintaining peace and order within the State.
   
Commissioner further highlighted pressing security concerns such as cultism and electoral violence, assuring that the Command will continue to adopt intelligence-led policing and leverage technology to enhance operational effectiveness.
   
Though the Command did not disclose the amount paid to each family, a total sum of ₦53,387,209.48 was presented to the families of the fallen heroes, as benefits under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme. The gesture underscores the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to the welfare of the families of officers who lost their lives in active service.
   
The beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the IGP and the Lagos State Police Command for the support, noting that the assistance will significantly alleviate the challenges faced by the families left behind.
  
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed that the sacrifices of fallen officers will never be forgotten and assured that the Force will continue to stand firmly with their families.
