Lagos police commissioner condemns Maryland mayhem

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, has condemned in strong terms the vandalisation of about 14 BRT buses belonging to Primero Transport Service Limited, by hoodlums along Ikorodu Road on Wednesday. Describing the incident as an act of terrorism, Owoseni called on parents, leaders and the society to team up in inculcating moral values in Nigerian youths.

In his presentation titled “Youth and Terrorism,” at the 2016 Goge Africa Foundation (GAF) Career Guidance and Counseling programme held yesterday at the National Theatre, he expressed disappointment over youths’ culpability in violence.

He said: “We need to guide our youths who are vulnerable citizens of our nation, to be responsible citizens and not agents of terrorism in our society. Look at the incident that happened at Maryland on Wednesday. A street hawker was knocked down by a vehicle, rather than people helping the security agents to quickly remove the corpse from the road, they resorted to destroying things, including BRT buses that were provided by government for the good of the people.

“All of us can be change agents and make the right choices when people are in distress. Young children need to be rightly guided, and parents, schools and religion have a role to play, and by so doing we will be better individuals and our society will be better.”
