Lagos police declare man wanted for alleged diversion of fund
Company explains role as sister alleges murder
Lagos State Police Command has declared a staff of Eat ‘N’ Go Limited, the sole and exclusive franchisee of Cold Stone Creamery in Nigeria, Moses Gbenga Ojo, wanted after he escaped from court premises.
Ojo was a worker at Cold Stone Satellite/FESTAC store, who allegedly created a Palm Pay account: 9129374053 to divert payment into his personal account. The company said upon investigation of his account, it was discovered to have series of transactions suspected to be money paid by customers with credit transactions ranging from five to 25 payments daily.
He was arrested, and detained by the Satellite Police Division before he was taken to Sikiru Adigun Magistrate’s court in Apapa on March 8, 2023. While in the courtyard, Ojo reportedly escaped from the court, and the situation was brought to the notice of the court and his mother, Cecilia Ojo, who was with him was arrested on the order of the court.
She was made to answer for her son’s case, while Ojo was declared at large. Police were asked to search for him and bring him to court to stand trial.
MEANWHILE, a lady identified as Ife Tiwa, who claimed to be a sister to the suspect, alleged that the firm had killed her brother for N11,000 as well as detained her mother.
Tiwa said: “My brother told us that a customer came to Coldstone Creamery Satellite Town, Alakija Abule Ado, he collected a transfer from the customer because the customer can only transfer to Microfinance bank.
“Unknowing to him that it was just a trap. My brother transferred the money to the company’s account immediately, which means he was only trying to render help. He does not know they don’t do such things. Some hours later, he got a call from the head office demanding he should appear because of the money.
“He explained to them that he only rendered help to the customer, since there were no sales and the company’s account was having issues. They arrested him, and they put him in a cell.
“He is just 18 years old. They charged him to court on March 8, 2023, now they said they can’t find my brother again, that he ran away. Moses is not with their money.”
Reacting, the company denied knowledge of his condition and said it only reported the matter to the police and after investigation, the Police took the suspect to court.
On his part, spokesperson for Lagos State Police Command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect is still at large.
