SOME Lagos residents have advised Olajumoke Orisaguna, the bread seller-turned model, to be modest in her dressing as a celebrity. They gave the advice in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday.

A civil servant, Mrs. Deborah Matthew, said it was not good or decent for Orisaguna, a mother of two, to put on nude dresses even in the line of duty. “Posterity will not forgive her for that because the children will see it and might emulate her and she cannot advise them because she is guilty.

“What example is she creating for youths like her and her environment; you can see how her boobs and thighs are showing. This is not the type of modeling we are talking about for a married woman,” she said.

Miss Nneka Ibemesi, a student of the University of Lagos, advised Orisaguna to also pursue higher education. “No matter the amount of money, she will make from modeling, she needs education to enable her know her left from right. Without education, she will not go far and as it is people are just telling her what to do, the day she demands what she really wants, her career will end.”

Mr. Olabisi Aderibigbe, a computer engineer, called on the 27-year-old celebrity to study the terrain she is operating to ensure her success as a celebrity. “The model is lucky to be seen and picked but my worry is that she does not know the terrain she has gone into. Exposing her body is unAfrican, soon they will give her only pant and bra to wear and cat walk all in the name of modeling,” he said.

Orisaguna was discovered recently in Lagos by a photographer and musician, T Y Bello, who was taking photos of British musician, Tinie Tempah. Orisaguna, who was selling bread at that time, happened to unintentionally walk into her shoot.

Taken back by the woman’s beauty, Bello took an unusual interest in Olajumoke and told her story to the world.

Foolish pieces of advice from ignorant people who do not know what modelling is about. And in any case bring nude or wearing skimpy dress is not strange in African culture so I don’t know what they are talking about. Please let Olajumoke enjoy her new found job.

We all are happy, for what happened to the young lady but calling people “foolish and ignorant” is not the way to go. You may disagree with their comments but that doesn’t make them foolish. All the people that advised the lady in the publication did not even abuse her. They are only saying what the think.
