Lagos restates support for artisans, tradesmen
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has stated that his administration will continue to invest in capacity building and infrastructure for Small and Medium-scale Enterprises (SMEs) to leverage on.
The governor made this commitment, yesterday, during the 13th Tradesmen and Artesans’ Day Celebration and Graduation, at De Blue Roof, LTV8, Ikeja, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, said: “No economy or society can do without the services being rendered by artesans and tradesmen because of their direct impact on people’s day-to-day living comfort.”
While recognising the role of artesans and tradesmen in the informal economy, the governor noted that his administration had been consistently developing innovative solutions that would address the challenges they face and improve their productivity.”
He added that his administration would continue to promote their decent means of livelihood and work conditions.
In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs. Yetunde Arobieke, stated that the celebration and graduation ceremony for 1,700 up-skilled tradesmen and artisans was to recognise and showcase the potential and contribution of the informal sector to the socio-economic development of Lagos.
