The Lagos State Government (LASG) has lent its unwavering support to the 12th yearly Egbe Cultural Festival, held from April 22 to 24, 2025, at Suntan Beach, Badagry, Lagos, Nigeria.
A statement signed by Ibraheem Akinlolu of the Public Affairs Unit (HoU), Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC), said: “This event exemplified the rich heritage, unity, and tradition of the Egbe community, aligning with Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s Themes+ agenda to promote indigenous culture and attract investors to the state’s unique tourist attractions.”
Representing the Lagos State Governor, Special Adviser on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe, was represented by Mr. Idowu Johnson, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Council for Arts and Culture.
During his address, he underscored the importance of preserving cultural heritage in an era of rapid modernisation. His words set the tone for the festival’s broader themes of pride and sustainability.
The event was graced by Oba Asagbemi Temiadara Ariwajoye Fasagbade Kini Amotekun Keji Arujeje of Akoko Land, who expressed profound gratitude to attendees and sponsors, particularly to the Lagos State Government for its enduring support since the festival’s endorsement. Oba Asa also invoked blessings for Lagos State, wishing it prosperity and success among its counterparts.
Across the three days of celebration, attendees witnessed a wide range of activities, including visits to tourist centers, homage to local Obas, and captivating showcases like the traditional Sato Drummers and dance performances, Egbe symbolic exhibitions, sacrifices to the gods (Orisa), and sessions of the Culture Worldwide Beauty Pageant.
The opening parade dazzled spectators, with Egbe groups donning colourful attires that celebrated their cultural roots, while the Egbe Night rituals honoured ancestral spirits and fostered communal bonds at Beach side.
The festival’s grand finale featured a spectacular display from various Egbe groups namely Orisa Iyalode, Orisa Ajaguna Isembaye Agbaye, Igba Aje Agbaye, Igba Olokun Isembaye Agbaye, Orisa Iyemoja Isembaye Agbaye, Igba Osun Isembaye Agbaye and Orisa Korikoto Isembaye Agbaye, the presentations of prestigious awards to Legend and Icon, and the crowning of Miss Culture Worldwide 2025, symbolising global recognition of cultural beauty and pride.
The 12th yearly Egbe Cultural Festival continues to stand as a beacon of cultural pride and a testament to the enduring spirit of the Egbe community. Its success highlights the importance of preserving heritage while driving sustainable development and fostering unity. Truly, this event reaffirms the Egbe Cultural Festival as a cornerstone of cultural celebration in Lagos State.
Distinguished personalities and Royal Fathers graced the event, alongside State officials led by Mr. Idowu Johnson, the CEO of the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture (LSCAC), to add prestige to the occasion.
