Lagos rolls out mass capacity building for civil servants

Lagos State Government has commenced another strategic phase of its capacity-building programme for public servants, with a series of professional training workshops designed to strengthen the capacity of the state’s workforce and prepare workers for the evolving demands of public service delivery.

In a statement, yesterday, the latest round of training includes targeted modules on policy formulation, leveraging talent development for the next public service, effective report writing and communication skills, team building, group dynamics and conflict management, and unlocking liquidity through transformational leadership.

The programme is scheduled to run through mid-May 2025 and is being held across various training centres in Ikeja.

According to the Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, the initiative was part of the ministry’s continuous drive to reposition the public service through knowledge enhancement and leadership development.

“These training sessions are carefully curated to address both current and future competencies required of public officers in Lagos State,” he said.

Ayantayo, who reiterated the administration’s commitment to investing in human capital development, noted that the capacity and competence of the public service remain central to the delivery of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s development agenda.

He emphasised the importance of report writing, stating that it remains one of the most fundamental skills for any civil servant.

The commissioner said that the training provided a vital opportunity for civil servants to refine their skills, noting that effective communication lies at the heart of their daily responsibilities.

Similarly, while declaring the training programme on policy formulation open, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olubusola Abidakun, highlighted the critical role policy-making plays in shaping societal progress.

She said the programme was designed to help participants sharpen their skills and broaden their perspectives, adding that it was a crucial step in ensuring that they continue to serve the public with the highest standards of professionalism and effectiveness.
