Lagos State Government has launched a 101-day initiative aimed at boosting tourism activities and increasing revenue for stakeholders in the hospitality and creative sectors.
The festival, tagged “101 Days in Lagos,” is scheduled to run from September 26 to January 4, 2026, and will feature a series of cultural, entertainment, and sporting events across various locations in the state.
The initiative is designed to promote Lagos as Africa’s cultural and tourism hub, drive partnerships with international stakeholders, empower youth through skill development, and showcase the diversity of Lagos’ cultural and creative industries.
Key highlights of the programme include the “Skills Up Lagos” initiative, which aims to equip young people with relevant skills in tourism, hospitality, and event management.
Other components of the festival include music and fashion displays, sporting competitions, art exhibitions, and food fairs, all aimed at attracting local and international visitors.
The Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Idris Aregbe, announced the initiative during a meeting with the Pulse Africa team.
In a statement yesterday, Aregbe said the initiative would revolutionise the tourism landscape, positioning Lagos as a year-round destination and establishing it as Africa’s cultural powerhouse.
He said: “The agenda includes empowering youths through robust skills development, showcasing the rich tapestry of Lagos’ cultural heritage to a global audience, fostering international sports engagement, and diversifying entertainment options to invigorate the daytime economy.”
The CEO of Pulse Africa, Ms Katharina Link, expressed her organisation’s commitment to showcasing Lagos’ creative pulse, noting the city’s energy, creativity, and opportunities.
THE State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also stated yesterday that his administration remained unwavering in protecting the rights of women, just as it was intentional about breaking barriers, dismantling discrimination, and creating an enabling environment where women could flourish.
Speaking at a Micro Enterprise Support Initiative (MESI) where artisans were empowered with working tools, Sanwo-Olu said the state government would continue to strengthen policies, laws, and institutions that guarantee safety, dignity, and equal opportunities for all women in Lagos State.
He said, “One of my greatest passions as the governor of this state is to empower our women. Over the years, I have seen that when you empower a woman, you empower a family, a community, and indeed the entire society.
“Today’s beneficiaries are not just receiving support; they are receiving renewed hope and an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to our state’s economic growth.”
Sanwo-Olu added that the greatness of Lagos depended on the strength of its people, adding, “And the strength of our people is rooted in the empowerment of our women. Together, we will continue to build a Lagos of resilience, inclusivity, and shared prosperity.”
