Gov. Simon Lalong of Plateau says he will revive the annual Governor’s Cup Golf tournament in the state.

Lalong announced on Sunday shortly after a golf tournament organised by Plateau Kitty Group that the competition would be staged in Jos in December.

Sunday’s event had pitched Kitty Country Club, Jos and the IBB Golf Club, Abuja to mark the governors’ 100 days in office.

Gov, Lalong noted that the Governor’s Cup, used to be an annual event that had not been staged in the last 20 years and vowed that he would reverse the trend.

Lalong, then, pledged to sponsor the kitty competition annually, saying that apart from the health benefits derivable from the exercise, golf helped to unify the people.

The governor added that golf was not all about the sport, but that golfers could come in with investment proposals as well.

He added that the sport could be exploited to drive away crises by promoting harmony and peaceful co-existence, even in a restive situation.

He assured that communal crises in the Plateau would soon be a thing of the past as the government was working with security agencies to restore peace. and assured that event would be staged in December over a period of five days.

The Chairman of the organising committee, Mike Izang explained that the tournament would be organised in honour the governor, “who is a golfer’’.

Izang said the event was also put together to afford the golfers outside the state the opportunity to promote the tourism potential of Plateau.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of prominent golfers who participated in the 2-day tournament that held between Saturday and Sunday include the wife of Kogi Governor, Faridah Wada.

Others are Emeka Wogu, a former Minister of Labour and Productivity, former acting Governor of Adamawa, James Barka.
