The Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has continued its enforcement against illegal developments, removing structures obstructing drainage channels across the state to tackle flooding and other environmental disasters.

Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab disclosed this in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) over the weekend.

“Operatives of the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance Department, alongside security operatives, continued enforcement operations with the removal of contravening structures blocking drainages and canals along the System 1 Drainage Channel in Arowojobe Estate,” he stated.

The commissioner explained that the demolition is part of comprehensive measures to prevent flooding, a recurring problem in the area and other parts of Lagos.

This action follows the earlier demolition of structures built on the System 157 drainage channel along Orchid Road in the Eti-Osa area of the state.

Several estate projects contravening approved setback regulations for buildings or drainage channels have recently been demolished, and realignment notices have been issued to ensure compliance. The government insists it will continue with enforcement action and restore the drainage channel right-of-way throughout the state.
