As part of efforts aimed at ensuring Lagos waterways are not littered with water hyacinth, the Lagos State Government trained 50 women on how to recycle water hyacinth for handcraft, with each of the women getting a grant of N15, 000 as startup fund.

The women were trained on how to use dried water hyacinth to make bangles, ring, earring, tablemat, hand fan, sweet bowls, lamp holders, bags and so on. One of the beneficiaries, Zongbosi Mautin, appreciated the government, promising to make judicious use of the knowledge acquired.

The traditional head of Mobee Kingdom, Badagry, Chief Patrick Yedenu Mobee thanked the state government for bringing such initiative to his people, advising his people to put the skill acquired to positive use.

In other news, the Lagos State Government yesterday disclosed that it would hold 40 concerts within eight days across five locations with over hundred artistes performing under its One Lagos Fiesta.

The concerts, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, said will commence on December 24 to terminate December 31, with A-list artistes performing in all the five locations of Epe, Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu and Victoria Island. Some of the artistes expected are Olamide, Sunny Ade, Humble Smith, Small Doctor, Adewale Ayuba, Salawa Abeni, Ras Kimono, Pasuma, Osupa and so on.

He added that there are some slight changes in the programme this year with the introduction of temitiyin, a corporate social responsibility project aimed at rewarding residents who show act of kindness and the rebranding of Lagos got talents to Lagos grows talents.

Meanwhile, Governor Ambode also yesterday commissioned the newly refurbished Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre used by journalists covering Lagos State Government activities.
