Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that it will conduct by-elections on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, to fill vacant councillorship seats across three local councils and council development areas.
According to an official statement from the Commission, the elections will take place in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), and Somolu Local Council.
The legislative seats became vacant following the tragic demise of the previous occupants.
LASIEC noted that the upcoming polls are inevitable to ensure continued democratic representation and effective grassroots governance for the residents of the affected wards.
The by-elections will be restricted to the following three specific electoral wards: Ward C (Orimedu I) – Ibeju-Lekki Local Council, Ward H (Kayode/Fadeyi) – Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA and Ward F (Bajulaiye) – Somolu Local Council.
According to LASIEC, registered political parties are required to purchase nomination forms at the LASIEC Headquarters, located at 1 Lancaster Street, Sabo, Yaba.
It stated: “Political Parties are to commence election campaigns for their candidates on Friday, June 12, 2026 and end on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Collection of nomination forms, submission of nomination forms by political parties and substitution of candidates by political parties shall run simultaneously from Friday, June 12, through Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
“The display of the register of voters at ward collation centres shall come up on Saturday, June 13, 2026, while names of nominated candidates and persons nominating them shall be displayed on Tuesday, June 16, 2026.
“The validation of candidates’ documents shall be held at the Commission’s headquarters as well as the display of the list of validated and invalidated candidates on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.”
Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, assured residents of the Commission’s unwavering commitment to delivering a free, fair, credible, transparent and peaceful election process that truly reflects the will of the people.
