The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced that it will start prosecuting waste bin defaulters from the 1st of June, 2023.

The LAWMA said this in a statement signed by its Managing Director/CEO, Ibrahim Odumboni on Thursday.

“The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), in fulfillment of its ministerial mandate on solid waste management in Lagos State, and in accordance with Section 83 of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, No. 10 vol. 50 2017, hereby expect that all tenements in Lagos State are to own appropriate waste bins, positioned in front of their properties,” Odumboni said.

“LAWMA will commence serving abatement notices on tenements without appropriate waste bins as notification and caution before implementation of the Law from 1st April 2023.

“The prosecution of defaulting tenements will begin from 1st June 2023.”

The Lagos parastatal in the statement also implored Lagosians to purchase the recommended smart bins approved by the LAWMA while also giving out their contacts.

“The recommended LAWMA-approved smart bins, which are durable and have a minimum service life of 10 years, can be procured by tenements online at http://buylawmabin.com or via our Waste Bin Customer Sales Unit, on 0818-423-1609 and 0913-388-9535.”

It emphasised that the purchase of LAWMA-approved smart bins is best recommended as they give a guarantee.
